The volunteers are the Championships' champions
The volunteers really make the World Championships come true. We asked a few of them about their roles.

Ida Markussen (25)
I have volunteered in the fan zones at Festningskaien. Here we assist with the access control and otherwise help where needed. I study tourism and events in Edinburgh, and this is a great way to learn more about that. Now I’m just really proud to be from Bergen. Imagine that Bergen has pulled off this spectacular world event!
Trinadh Rakesh (30, Hyberabad, India)
I am here as a volunteer photographer for the Communications Team for Bergen 2017. I arrived on Monday the 11th and have been preparing for this by travelling around before the Championships started. I take many thousand pictures every day, and some of them are published via the Bergen 2017 media channels like the website, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts. This has been a beautiful experience!
Oda Leknessund (19)
I have been a Medals Ceremony volunteer. That means handing out medals in front of a TV audience of millions. I don’t think much about the TV audience; it is so much fun to be out there on the stage that it doesn’t occur to me until afterwards. In addition, I stand by the VIP tent to show of the national dress along with the other Medals Ceremony volunteers. We get to congratulate the winners, and we have posted a few images on Snapchat.
Philip Apruzzese (69, New Jersey, USA)
I love cycling and have ridden all the courses before the Championships started. I also volunteered in Richmond in 2015. My job is to cater to the VIPs in the VIP tent. The Bergen 2017 organizers take good care of their volunteers; we get three meals a day, clothing and lodging. I have never been thanked in so many different languages before! And I was very touched to see all the children cycling on Wednesday. This has been a wonderful experience.
Christoffer Hansen (28)
My regular job is a social worker, but I’m very enthusiastic about cycling, and it’s great fun to be able to contribute to the road race championships. I have been a course marshal, and therefore I have been able to watch the races closely. These championships are a victory for Bergen.
Ester Karin Hjertø (74)
I am retired and have a great interest for sport and lots of time on my hands. So why not pitch in and help with the championships in Bergen? I have been a course marshal throughout the championships, and I have really enjoyed it.
