It’s all about the Rainbow Jersey for van der Breggen
Anna van der Breggen (NED) has proven to be a true champion winning several of the greatest events for the past 12 months. Still, she has one more monumental desire left to fulfill: To achieve the Rainbow Jersey.
Anna van der Breggen became professional in 2012. It didn’t take a lot of time before she snatched her first professional win. As a neo-pro, she won three out of four stages and the general classification at the Tour of Bretagne. From that point the Dutch has never looked back and she is now one of the greatest cyclists in the world.
Van der Breggen’s (NED) professional cycling team, Boels Dolmans, has quoted the Dutch favorite of her personal ambitions for 2017.
– Continue to improve, enjoy the experience in a new team and the World Championships.
Last year the 27-year-old won Olympic gold and bronze in Rio, the gold and silver medal at the UEC Road European Championships and numerous of other great results. It could seem a bit optimistic to «continue to improve». But guess what, this year she has been out of this world. After being the third person ever – man or woman – to win the «triple of the Ardennes» in a single season, she has stamped an even bigger footprint in the history of cycling. If that wasn’t enough, she has been clicking in one great victory after another. The only thing missing at her palmarès is a UCI Road World Championships title. There is no point arguing about her ambitions for this year’s Championship in Bergen. She is going for the Rainbow Jersey!
Anna van der Breggen is known to be a close to complete bike rider. She is loyal and possesses great capacity. Her offensive style of riding and willingness to attack the greatest rivals far out from the finish line, makes the Dutch engaging to watch and follow. Her climbing abilities, her qualifications as a classics rider, and the fact that she is a decent sprinter, make it hard for any contender to know what to expect. On the other hand, you don’t need to be an expert to forecast spectacular attacks from the 27-year-old in the final of the women’s Road Race.
Van der Breggen will be the leader of a Dutch battalion of pure class in the Women’s Road Race. The Dutch team may be one of the strongest ever seen in a UCI Road World Championships. Together with riders like Marianne Vos (NED), Annemiek Van Vleuten (NED), Chantel Blaak (NED), Ellen van Dijk (NED) and Lucinda Brand (NED) they should be able to control the Road Race.
The Dutch Superstar will also be one of the main favorites for the the UCI Women Elite Individual Time Trial. The course is somewhat hilly and technically demanding, a profile which will suit the 27-year old quite well. Boels Dolsman, van der Breggen’s professional team, is also a contender for the medals in the Wthe UCI Women Elite Individual Time Trial.
