Courses “Powered by Nature” will give attractive and enjoyable races for everyone.
Bergen and the region will present spectacular courses surrounded by fjords, mountains and beautiful scenery that one only finds in Norway. The courses will present the riders for varied and different challenges, and they will guarantee action and viewable races for the world-wide audience.
The team time trails (TTT) will depart from the island of Askøy. The coastal municipality will greet the riders a warm welcome and show the region from its best side as the teams’ race towards Bergen. The coastal landscape will also pay tribute to the final event of the UCI Road World Championships – the elite men road race. There will be a preliminary course around the archipelago Sotra (the municipalities Fjell, Sund and Øygarden) so the entire region can participate in the great event. This will be a “Tour de Bergen and the region” where everyone can show their pride of hosting the event.
Both the individual time trails (ITT) and the road races will be held in circuits in Bergen. The start/-finish area will be at Festplassen in the centre of the city. This will give optimal conditions for the spectators and fans as the entire city will be a large fanzone, and thus create a unique atmosphere. The circuits will present the rich history and culture of Bergen to the world .The old royal hall “Haakonshallen”, UNESCO World Heritage site Bryggen and the famous fish market decorates the last 2 km of the circuit. A panorama view over the city and the fjord will be awarded the riders when they reach Montana at mount Ulriken.
The circuits for the Individual Time Trials and the Road Races are facilitated around public transportation and World Championships Camps (camper-van parking). This will provide easy access for the fans and spectators to the course, the venue and the city centre.
Bergen 2017 is all about “Race to Celebrate”.
